We were just checking out the heats coming up in round 32 of the Oneill 6* at Sunset Beach, Oahu.
Pat has already qualified for the wct tour for 2010, and we believe Tanner (the youngest of the three)
just needs to make it out of round 32. So will twin bro’s Pat and Dane “not try” and give it to there
little bro…. We will wait and see, but we say yes they will…. Get him on the tour boys!!!!

Going e-commerce

We just noticed Hurley has joined on the e-commerce side of things just like Roxy, and Quiksilver. We shall see if the other big 2 will follow ( Billabong, Volcom ). For those who don’t understand surf companies are now selling there product direct to the consumer in which they are cutting out the middle man (surf shops) per say. So if it cost a company $2.00 to make a shirt and they turn around and sell it on there own site for $25.00 that’s a big profit, compared to selling it to the surf shop (wholesale) for $12.50. You have to see both sides of the fence here, yeah the surf shops have to be peed off, but it’s only smart (we guess) for the companies to sell direct now with the technology to do so… Let us know if you know of any other brands are doing the same thing…

“Only a Surfer Knows the Feeling” – Billabong It’s so true. I guess you can say this goes for any sport you do. Only a surfer know the feeling of getting that long tube, doing a huge air and landing perfectly, getting the longest ride of there life, etc.
“Men Who Ride Mountains” – Quiksilver Being out in the water at say 30ft Mavericks or Waimea Bay, a set rolls in, he turns and paddles, his heart is beating a million miles an hour, he catches the wave staring down the face of a 30ft “mountain”, knowing this could be the best or last wave of his life.
“Nobody Knows, Nobody Cares” – Lost I think I remember reading years ago, a thing on Rob Machado where he was talking about being on tour, and he could win an event and come home to see his friends (who work 9-5 type friends) and they wouldn’t even know if he won or lost. It’s crazy how and when your on the tour, its a really small group of people (surfers, photogs, judges, and a few others) traveling together to one location for about 2 weeks. Your like a family for that time period. You come home and everything’s still the same. You were gone for two weeks and maybe even won the contest or made it to the finals (in which is a vicory in it’s own) and without sounding bitter we kind of agree with the phrase “Nobody Knows, Nobody Cares”. =(

Hang 10 to the US Open by Hurley

Hurley has signed on as the title sponsor to the world’s largest professional surfing competition, the Hurley U.S. Open of Surfing. This year there bringing on a “hang 10″ longboard contest. Which will include surfing greats Joel Tudor, Herbie Fletcher, Alex Knost, CJ Nelon among others. Should be an exciting event, let’s just hope we get some waves…

The only thing we didn’t like about this, is the way they edited it where he is getting spit out of the tube and they cut to another frame, where it leaves you asking, “did he not come out?” They should have just kept it playing.. I want to learn how to Surf…

We hear this a lot. First and foremost you need the right board. No, there not the “cool” looking surfboards (fiberglass boards) you see everyone else using. You have to work your way up to one of those. It’s really like you have to learn to crawl before you can walk. To make learning quick and fun you MUST learn on a board such as these. Why, because there very long in length and for that alone will make paddling much easier along with catching the waves. Second, go where it’s a “learners” wave. A learners wave is usually a beach-break where there are lifeguard-stands. Check out the tide charts and try to surf during “high-tide”. Last if you can afford it, try going through a surf school such as Surf Diva. They are located in La Jolla. If you do all of this we can almost guarantee you will stand up and be surfing! As you get better and better, then that is when you get a smaller surfboard. Good luck, and have fun!
